‘Sea Smoke’ Rises From Vancouver Harbor Amid Bitter Cold

Vapor rose from waters in Vancouver, British Columbia, as temperatures dipped as little as -11 levels Celsius (12 Fahrenheit) on Wednesday, December 21. Sea smoke, which the Canadian climate service outlined as “a fog that forms when an outbreak of cold air settles over an expanse of open, relatively warmer water, reducing visibility.” Video posted by Brad Atchison on Wednesday exhibits sea smoke at New Brighton Beach. Atchison mentioned that this was the primary time he had seen the climate phenomenon in Vancouver. Canada’s climate service issued an arctic outflow warning as “bitterly cold temperatures and strong winds” have been forecasted to have an effect on Vancouver and the encircling space till Thursday.
