Russian-born Ludmila Kovaleva fears she might face imprisonment or dying in Russia if her visa will not be renewed by the Australian Department of Immigration – regardless of a number of rejected makes an attempt since she fled Moscow in 2010.
“The last option is the minister Andrew Giles exercises power and grant her a visa to stay here where she can live safely,” says lawyer Simon Jeans.
Mr Jeans mentioned there was a “system problem” inside the immigration division which regularly refuses the “most meritorious” instances.
“Hopefully members of parliament, senators, community leaders, religious leaders can intervene on someone’s behalf,” he advised Sky News Australia.
