The membership mentioned Ziebell was “set upon” when he left the bar by a bunch of males in an “unprovoked attack”.

“He suffered injuries to his face and head and needed to spend the night in hospital,” the membership mentioned.

Police confirmed they had been investigating an alleged assault on a 32-year-old man in South Yarra at about 1am in a single day.

They mentioned it was believed to be an “unprovoked incident” and the person was not critically injured.

They mentioned it appeared the sufferer was pushed onto the highway by one man, who had two others with him.

The sufferer was allegedly punched within the face and kicked, and fell to the bottom, after which the three males fled the scene.

Police are investigating whether or not the assault could have adopted a reported “push and shove scuffle” contained in the venue, which noticed the three males get kicked out.

Anybody with info is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or on-line.

Ziebell performed 279 matches for North Melbourne between 2009 and 2023, and served as membership captain from 2017 to 2022.

His final match was yesterday.
