A complete of 1,245 people have been arrested over e-sabong or on-line cockfighting video games from July 1, 2022 to August 15, 2023, based on the The Philippine National Police (PNP).
In an announcement, the PNP mentioned 322 accused individuals have been convicted, 808 circumstances have been directed to courts, whereas 437 circumstances have been referred to prosecutors.
“The extensive crackdown on e-sabong illegal gambling underscores our unwavering commitment to the rule of law,” PNP chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr. mentioned.
“The significant number of arrests demonstrates that the PNP remains steadfast in maintaining peace and order in our communities.”
Acorda added that the PNP “will continue to relentlessly pursue those who violate the law, ensuring that justice prevails for the betterment of society.”
In a separate assertion, the PNP’s Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP) mentioned 1,529 e-sabong web sites have been shut down from June 2022 to August 2023.
ACG chief Police Brigadier General Sidney Hernia mentioned their group will proceed to watch e-sabong actions as operators can simply create new on-line platforms.
“Although challenges persist due to the ease with which these operators can establish new websites, our resolve remains unyielding to ensure the eradication of e-sabong websites from online platforms,” Hernia mentioned.
The ACG mentioned it’s collaborating with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) to dam rising e-sabong web sites. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
