One man is lifeless and two others have been rushed to hospital after a dramatic rescue at The Spit on the Gold Coast this afternoon.

Two courageous beachgoers raced into the water to retrieve the three males after they had been noticed in hassle in tough surf.

Life guards sprinted down the sand to assist after as trio, all of their 20s, had been pulled from the water.

Paramedics started performing CPR on two of the rescued males who had been unconscious.

The two males who survived had been taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in secure situations.

The courageous beachgoers who helped within the rescue additionally required therapy from paramedics.

Witnesses say they jumped into the water once they noticed the lads struggling.

“We saw a couple of people out of the water, a couple of my mates run down and got some help,” a witness informed 9News.
