Next week marks the 15th anniversary of the apology to the Stolen Generation

Next week will mark the fifteenth anniversary of the apology to the Stolen Generation, in response to Sky News host Amanda Stoker.

“The idea that a person could ever have been regarded as an unsuitable parent on the basis of their race rather than on the basis of their behaviour is repugnant and wrong,” Ms Stoker mentioned.

“But it is time we had a real conversation now about whether, in our sincere national desire to ensure that there is no repeat of the Stolen Generation, now too many vulnerable children being left exposed to dangers that would not be tolerated if the child were not Indigenous.

“Let me be clear, the Stolen Generation was wrong, but we should not confuse genuine and necessary child safety interventions in the present with what was something completely different, and completely wrong in the past.”
