Melbourne dancer survives rare flesh-eating infection

Caitlin Cooper’s dance profession was hovering till early final month when she damage her foot throughout a solo coaching session. 

Two days later, the Melbourne 17-year-old was rushed to hospital.

She was in acute ache, shedding consciousness and her foot was swelling quickly.

“It was the size of a balloon,” she stated.

“I did a backwards roll and all I did was bang the top of my foot really hard on the floor.”

An astute Northern Health plastic surgeon recognized her with the flesh-eating an infection necrotising fasciitis.

Cooper stated she was at actual danger of shedding “my leg or my life”.

Necrotising fasciitis is brought on by micro organism from a reduce or wound, though it could occur after blunt trauma.

“It’s just shocking, I can’t believe it,” Caitlin stated.

After 29 days, six aggressive surgical procedures and two blood transfusions, Caitlin was discharged.

She is taking sluggish steps to restoration and stays grateful for the help of household, the dance group and hospital. 

“The nurses and the surgeons were incredible and they saved my life and my leg,” she stated.

While Caitlin will not be strolling correctly for some time but she is decided to grow to be knowledgeable performer and be amongst her dance buddies as soon as once more.  

“I miss dancing, I miss my friends every day,” she stated.
