Me-Mel draws closer to being returned to Indigenous owners
Significant steps in transferring the possession of Me-Mel (Goat Island) again to Aboriginal possession have been made by the NSW authorities.

The authorities has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Me-Mel Transfer Committee, with $43 million dedicated to “restore and remediate” the island.

The committee will present choices for cultural, tourism and public makes use of of the location in addition to recommendation on managing the location.

A business case will even be developed.

NSW Premier Chris Minns stated the federal government was listening to the First Nations group all through the method.

”The island will be a symbol of reconciliation in the heart of Sydney Harbour,” Minns stated.

“That is what the signing of this agreement is all about.

“I thank the earlier authorities and its former premiers for his or her dedication to this mission over a few years.”
