McGowan regarded noticeably relaxed and feeling “good” as he arrived for his ultimate day within the job, saying he was assured in Roger Cook’s capability to guide the state in his wake.

“I think people have heard enough from me, I just want to go to becoming a quiet, ordinary person,” he stated.

“I’m going to go back to being an ordinary person, that is my ambition.

“No second ideas, I’m not regretting it.

“That’s a good thing actually, I’m glad I don’t have second thoughts.”

His deputy Cook now takes over because the state’s chief.
