Marcos on US-China ‘competition’: We’d rather not have these tensions

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday mentioned the Philippines maintains an unbiased overseas coverage and won’t have interaction in choosing sides that might create pressure amongst nations.

“About the competition between the United States and China and if it’s that what we want. Believe me, we would rather not have these tensions in our part of the world. That is the last thing that we would like,” Marcos mentioned when requested in a news convention whether or not he would welcome European Union becoming a member of the competitors with US and China for ASEAN’s consideration.

“The Philippines for our part has taken an independent policy and we absolutely refuse to go back to the situation of the Cold War where we have to pick sides in terms of who the super power is that we are aligned with,” he added.

Marcos pointed out that the country’s foreign policy is for peace and for the national interest.

“In phrases of that competitors, as I mentioned, I feel all of us member states particularly in ASEAN, have to seek out our personal approach. However, I feel I’d not be overstepping by saying that we agree within the sense that we’re dedicated to the concept that the way forward for the Asia-Pacific area needs to be determined by Asia-Pacific nations and never another energy exterior of our space,” he mentioned,
