President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday vowed to proceed rebuilding Marawi City, elements of which have been closely broken or destroyed after a five-month siege between the Islamic State-inspired Maute group and authorities forces in 2017.

Marcos stated his administration would proceed to rebuild the war-torn metropolis, noting the P1 billion allotted for the victims of the siege.

“Our administration stands resolute in our commitment to their welfare, demonstrated through reconstruction efforts and the allocation of P1 billion for displaced individuals and victims who have endured the loss of their homes and possessions,” he stated.

“Together, we will strive to ensure that Marawi emerges stronger than ever before,” he added.

Marawi suffered extreme harm after the conflict began on May 23, 2017 and went on for 5 months earlier than authorities forces proclaimed victory towards the Islamic. Then-President Rodrigo Duterte declared town’s liberation on October 17 of that 12 months.

In January of this 12 months, the Presidential Communications Office introduced the brand new members of the Marawi Compensation Board, which is able to grant monetary assist to the victims of the siege. — BM, GMA Integrated News
