The lengthy weekend over the Holy Week will likely be even longer with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s proclamation shifting the non-working day in observance of Araw ng Kagitingan to Monday, April 10.
On the Official Gazette’s Facebook web page, Malacañang referred to Marcos’ Proclamation No. 90 issued in November 2022.
“The commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan (April 9) which is a regular holiday falls on a Sunday for the year 2023,” Proclamation No. 90 learn.
“To enable our countrymen to avail of the benefits of a longer weekend, Monday, 10 April 2023, in lieu of Sunday, 9 April 2023, may be declared as a non-working holiday, provided that the historical significance of Araw ng Kagitingan is maintained,” it added.
Maundy Thursday and Good Friday on April 6 and April 7 are common holidays. —NB/KG, GMA Integrated News
