Imee: US embassy said planners missed telling NAIA of military plane’s arrival

US embassy has  admitted that flight planners didn’t coordinate with NAIA floor handlers as regards a US navy plane’s arrival in Manila on June 26, Senator Imee Marcos mentioned on Friday.

According to Marcos, the US embassy mentioned that the arrival of the US navy aircraft had diplomatic clearance from the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Marcos issued the assertion to reveal the letter from the US Embassy dated July 6 wherein US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson supplied a abstract of the incident in regards to the touchdown of a Boeing C-17 transport plane registered below the US navy at NAIA.

“The U.S. Embassy admitted that while the aircraft had an approved diplomatic clearance from the Department of Foreign Affairs, the US flight planners did not coordinate in advance with the NAIA ground handlers and were, in fact, unfamiliar with the airport,” Marcos mentioned, citing the contents of the letter.

“This lack of coordination, in turn, led to the parking of the aircraft in the wrong spot, delays ground servicing, and subsequent delays in the completion of customs and immigration processes,” she added.

Marcos mentioned the US Embassy had defined that the plane was within the Philippines to help a biliteral navy train.

It stopped at NAIA earlier than going to its ultimate vacation spot in Palawan “in order to comply with Philippine customs and immigration requirements.” However, attributable to a clerical error, a number of the data supplied by the US Government for the flight clearance was incorrect.

Further, Marcos mentioned the US Embassy defined that the plane’s cargo included gear for a US Marine Corps Mobile Operations Center for use within the Marine Aviation Support Activity train and that the one non-crew passenger aboard the plane was a US Marine travelling with the cargo who deplaned in Palawan to affix his unit in help of the mentioned train.

In late June, Marcos, chairperson of Senate overseas relations committee, filed Senate Resolution 667 in search of a probe into the alleged unadvised touchdown of the US navy plane in Manila.

She questioned the aim of the arrival of a Boeing C-17 strategic transport plane operated by the US navy in Manila when its important vacation spot was Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

Citing a supply, Marcos mentioned the Manila International Airport Integrated Command and Control Center was not given any advisory on the arrival of the mentioned plane.

The plane arrived at NAIA at round 8:08 within the morning of July 26, 2023, departed on the identical day at 6:10 p.m. or 10 hours after it arrived then arrived in Puerto Princesa at round 7:08 p.m, in response to Marcos’ decision.

After Marcos sought a probe into the matter, the US Embassy mentioned that it has been coordinating with the Philippine authorities to allow the entry of any US authorities plane into the nation. —NB, GMA Integrated News
