‘He was gone’: Golfers give CPR after man struck by lightning near Brisbane

The injured golfer was rushed to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a important situation after he was struck by lightning at Wantima Golf Course in Brendale, Queensland Ambulance Service stated.

Rex Schaller, 55, stated he, brother in-law Keith Lightbody, and nephew Craig Lightbody have been sheltering from the storm by a rest room block once they noticed the opposite golfer standing below a tree on the course.

Schaller, from the Sunshine Coast, stated the person was knocked onto the bottom and so they thought he had been killed.

“There was bolts of lightning all over the place,” he stated.

“He’s lying down, he’s been hit. I thought the man was dead.”

The males determined to hurry to assist regardless of the damaging situations.

“We made the decision to borrow someone’s cart and head over to him,” he stated.

The man was unconscious and Schaller stated he thought it was already too late.

“He was gone,” he stated.

Schaller and a buddy of the injured man gave CPR whereas Keith Lightbody helped and Craig Lightbody known as the ambulance.

“We wouldn’t give up on him,” Schaller stated.

“His team mate and myself were swapping over.”

Schaller stated the drive of the lightning appeared to have damaged the person’s golf membership in two.

He stated it took between 20 and 25 minutes for ambulance crews to reach.

The medics then took over and managed to get the person’s coronary heart beating, he stated.

“The crews carried on in this horrendous weather – these people are amazing,” he stated.

“I really hope that he’s okay.”
