Gas companies will be ‘destroying demand’ in the long term by not taking on new customers

Gas firms shall be “permanently destroying demand” in the event that they don’t promote their product to prospects in the long run, Grattan Institute Energy Deputy Program Director Alison Reeve says.

“Not all but many gas users have an opportunity to use electricity and if they can’t get gas at reasonable prices … then they will switch,” Ms Reeve advised Sky News Australia.

“They won’t come back when gas prices come down because there’s a cost to switching.

“It’s really not in the gas companies’ interests to try and hold the domestic market to ransom.”
