Firefighters battling blaze north-east of Melbourne
Homes are beneath menace from a fierce hearth burning at Flowerdale north-east of Melbourne.

The fast-moving grassfire broke out on Spring Valley Road earlier than 3pm this afternoon and has already engulfed 100 hectares.

Houses are within the firing line with an emergency warning issued to the group.

Thirty-six floor crews and a waterbombing plane have been despatched in.

Authorities issued an emergency warning for residents in Flowerdale and Yea to shelter indoors.

”There is a grassfire at Spring Valley Rd, Flowerdale that is not yet under control,” VicEmergency suggested.

“The grassfire is travelling in a northerly direction from Spring Valley Road, Flowerdale.

“If you haven’t already left, the time to soundly evacuate has now handed. Take shelter indoors instantly. It is now too harmful to depart.”
