The Department of Transportation is eyeing the creation of designated bus lanes just like the EDSA Carousel in main thoroughfares in Cebu, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, and Metro Manila such because the Commonwealth Avenue.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista made the comment at a Commission on Appointments listening to when Senator Risa Hontiveros requested why EDSA is the one thoroughfare that has a devoted bus lane.
(I believe we have to have extra devoted bus lanes. We within the street sector at the moment are discussing the opportunity of having devoted bus lanes in main thoroughfares like Quezon Avenue, Commonwealth Avenue, and different areas in Metro Manila with vast roads.)
“Katulad po ng EDSA Carousel na from North Ave. to Ayala is less than 30 minutes. We also need to do this in) major cities not only in Metro Manila but also in Cebu, Davao and Cagayan de Oro,” he added.
Hontiveros expressed delight on Bautista’s assertion, saying the federal government can undertake and apply one of the best fashions in Jakarta, Indonesia which already designated 388 kilometers of roads as bus lanes.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
