Decision to replace monarch on Australia’s note ‘not personal’: Albanese

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the choice to switch the British monarch’s picture on Australia’s five-dollar notice is “not at all” private.

“The King’s portrait, the official one, will be on the back of every coin,” Mr Albanese advised Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan in an unique interview.

“And, of course, our dollar notes – the truth is that they’ve all changed at various times as well, including the five dollar note.”

He stated the choice was made by the Reserve Bank somewhat than the federal government itself.

“They consulted the government, and we were comfortable with the decision that was made to have an Indigenous representation work on the five dollar note,” Mr Albanese stated.
