Bureau of Corrections Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. on Saturday gave an “ultimatum” to individuals disadvantaged of liberty (PDL) within the New Bilibid Prison and instructed them that they’ve till Sunday to give up all their contraband.
In a press release, Catapang stated if the PDLs don’t give up their contraband they may conduct every day searches referred to as “Operations Greyhound.”
“I am appealing to other groups inside the national penitentiary to cooperate with us, to come forward and surrender their contrabands because we will be relentless in our efforts. I assure you that it is not just a ningas cogon, we will not waver until we find those contrabands,” Catapang stated.
The ultimatum was made a day after a gaggle of PDLs surrendered a hand grenade, 3 items of improvised shotgun, 3 items of shotgun cartridges, and dozens of different weapons.
According to Catapang, an inspection might be carried out to find out how contraband was in a position to move the safety inspection.
Meanwhile, Catapang assured that PDLs who cooperate along with his reform agenda will have the ability to go away jail after serving their minimal sentence, whereas violators might be required to serve longer.
He additionally warned his employees to perform their duties accordingly.
“We all have jobs to do, I will not tolerate incompetence. I still believe that good changes in the bureaucracy can still happen,” stated Catapang. —Jiselle Casucian/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
