Cairns Mayor encourages tourists to visit Far North Queensland city

Cairns Mayor Terry James has inspired vacationers to go to Far North Queensland with the town of Cairns itself “pretty well unscathed” from flooding.

The area’s tourism sector is predicted to take a $60 million hit after being impacted by extreme flooding.

“We would like to see them (tourists) back next week,” Mr James informed Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“The Great Barrier Reef is still there, the airport is back open, the harbour is open, we will be ready for business.

“We need to support some of these operators, they have done it very tough.”
