The Bureau of Customs (BOC) mentioned on Saturday it seized P104 million value of illegally imported onions, sugar, and cigarettes throughout a collection of inspections on the Manila International Container Port (MICP).
The BOC mentioned the illegally imported items have been seized from eight shipments—5 of which got here from China, two from Hong Kong, and one from India—and contained undeclared pink and white onions, sugar, and cigarettes.
It mentioned the shipments arrived between December 29, 2022, and February 10, 2023, and have been examined from February 17 to 23, 2023, after the issuance of Alert Orders (AOs) primarily based on the derogatory info acquired by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service-MICP (CIIS-MICP).
“Our intel officers and agents are highly skilled and equipped at detecting the concealment methods for these smuggling activities,” BOC Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence Group Juvymax Uy mentioned.
The company mentioned the three consignees of the shipments could be requested to current the right permits for the importation of the products.
Charges might also be filed in opposition to these accountable for the unlawful importation of those merchandise. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
