“’Yung mahirap lang, siyempre, ‘pag doctor to the barrio ka you are on your own na. Kapag nasa med school ka may puwede ka pag tawagan na senior, kapag doctor to the barrio ka, ikaw ‘yung doctor, ikaw ‘yung expert so you have to make some decision na ikaw lang,” he stated.

As a barrio physician, Marcelo stated one has to be taught to be an “all-round” doctor.

“Kapag doctor to the barrio ikaw na talaga ang magpapaanak, magtatahi. May mga kaso na kailangang ikaw,” he stated.

He suggested sustaining contacts with different professionals is important for help and having a assist group with fellow medical doctors and well being officers within the barrio.

“Bilang doctor to the barrio, marami ka ring puwedeng gawin. Hindi ka lang clinician, [isa ka ring] community mobilizer, health systems reform, ngayon especially na nasa midst tayo ng reform ng universal healthcare, maraming reforms na kailangan i-implement,” Marcelo stated.
