An Australian man has died in a scooter accident whereas on vacation in southern Italy.

Western Australian Matthew Borromei misplaced management of his scooter and crashed right into a cement pillar within the Sicilian city of Taormina on Wednesday, native media reported.

Local media reported Borromei died earlier than emergency providers arrived on the scene.

His household confirmed the demise in a social media put up saying the 25-year-old had died in one in all “favourite places he discovered on his European travels”.

“Miss you. Forever in our hearts and thoughts,” the put up stated.

Tributes have erupted for the 25-year-old described as man with a “zest for life”.

“Sadly Matt lost his life while touring in Italy and he will be greatly missed by many for his energy, smile,” native soccer staff Railways Football Club Kalgoorlie wrote on Facebook.

“This is a very difficult write with Matt so loved by all and words genuinely fail in this moment.

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson said it is providing consular assistance to Borromei’s family.

“We ship our deepest condolences to the person’s household,” the spokesperson said.
