There’s fears a girl could have suffered mind injury because of a routine surgical procedure.

It occurred on Friday when the girl went in for, what Nine News stories was, an ordinary gynaecological process at St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital, within the inner-northeastern Perth suburb of Mt Lawley.

During the operation it’s understood a surgeon reduce into an artery, leading to large blood loss, with the girl transferred to Royal Perth Hospital for an emergency transfusion.

St John of God Mt Lawley chief govt Vanessa Unwin confirmed “a clinical incident” had occurred, “resulting in an adverse outcome for a patient”.

“We advised the family immediately,” Ms Unwin stated in an announcement. “It is clearly a difficult time for them and we remain in contact.

“Patient safety is our highest priority. We treat incidents with the utmost seriousness and will undertake a full investigation.”

It’s the second critical surgical incident at a St John of God hospital in Perth in three weeks.

A person, aged in his 60s, suffered extreme burns following a fireplace breaking out in an working theatre at St John of God Subiaco Hospital on February 14.
