Third death linked to suspected poisoning

A 3rd individual has died following a suspected poisoning incident in Victoria’s south east.

Two ladies and two males fell ailing after consuming a meal at a house in Leongatha, within the Gippsland area, on July 29.

All 4 have been taken to hospital the next day.

On Friday, the ladies, aged 66 and 70, died in hospital.

Late Saturday, a 70-year-old man handed away.

A 68-year-old man stays in hospital, with police investigating the incident.

“At this time the exact circumstances are still being established and it is not known if the matter is suspicious,” a police spokesperson mentioned.

“The investigation into the incident remains ongoing and police will liaise with the Department of Health.”

A Department of Health spokesman confirmed the division was aiding police with their investigation.

“The Department is aware of the situation and our investigations are ongoing,” he mentioned.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the patients’ family for their loss.”
