Teen rescued from stormwater drain

An adolescent who turned trapped in a stormwater drain after attempting to retrieve a ball has been rescued.

Emergency companies rushed to Chapel Rd at Bankstown, in Sydney’s southwest, about 10.55am on Tuesday to search out the teenage boy trapped.

The boy had been enjoying with mates close by when their ball went into the drain.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Craig Watkins mentioned the boy “slipped and fell” into the drain whereas attempting to retrieve a ball.

“He couldn’t climb out,” Mr Watkins mentioned.

A rescue operation was instantly launched by each paramedics and Fire and Rescue NSW officers, as {the teenager} suffered from a fractured arm.

Officers made contact with the boy and handled his fractured arm earlier than safely extracting him.

The teenager was taken to Bankstown Lidcombe Hospital in a secure situation.

“This is an unfortunate incident for the patient, but it has had a positive outcome given the danger that stormwater drains can present,” Mr Watkins mentioned.
