The cousin-in-law of a veteran who died whereas climbing the Kokoda Track has written an Anzac Day tribute to the person.

Paul “Dusty” Miller, 48, is believed to have suffered a deadly coronary heart assault whereas trekking the 96km thoroughfare in Papua New Guinea on April 16.

Mr Miller spoke to the Timor Awakening podcast in 2020 concerning the darker aspect of his post-military life.

“He was brave enough to share his own stories of suicidal ideation, escapism from workaholism and more,” wrote Ms Montgomerie.

“He also explained his concept of creating a shield for ourselves to get through tough times. His key message – ‘Seek help early’.”

Ms Montgomerie closed the tribute with hyperlinks to donate to Operation Unity, an SA-based veterans help service.

Paul’s Kokoda trek was elevating cash for its K9 initiative, elevating help canines for ex-servicemen and girls.
