After spending years placing others’ wants earlier than her personal, Perth’s Jade Taunton has determined it’s her time to shine – hoping to make all of it the way in which on this yr’s season of The Voice.
The 23-year-old says as exhausting because it was rising up caring for youthful sister Jordan – who lives with cerebral palsy – she wouldn’t have had it some other approach.
“I had to grow up from quite a young age, I didn’t really get the normal childhood,” she says.
“My mum – being a single mum – she needed the help, so I just stepped up and did everything that I could, and that ended in me having to sacrifice my life a little bit.
“As a kid my birthday was my favourite day, because it was a day I got to spend with my mum, just her and I. It was a day about me.
“Thinking about it as an adult is really sad … I was that child that got left behind … but it had to be that way.”
The budding singer says as she grew older, she didn’t know who she really was.
“I knew what my sister’s favourite things were and I knew everything she loved to do, but I didn’t know who I was and what I loved to do,” she says.
“I needed to step away and I needed to do me and learn what I liked.”
Moving from Nowra within the Shoalhaven as much as Wollongong proved to be the circuit breaker Taunton was chasing.
She swiped proper on her now fiance Bailli, the pair fell in love, packed up their lives and moved to Perth earlier this yr.
“We’ve moved quite a fair distance away from the family which is hard, but it’s what we wanted to do,” she says, including that her and her household discuss “every single day”.
Taunton – a receptionist for Western Cardiology – stated her and her fiance – a FIFO employee – love their new life on the west coast.
“It’s so beautiful here and it’s like the country and the city mixed in one, which is so nice because I was raised in the country,” she says.
“We live a pretty casual life … we go to Canteen and take our dog for a walk in Trigg … Go out for a wine and a beer here and there.”
But regardless of calling herself a “foodie”, it’s music that basically makes the 23-year-old’s coronary heart sing.
Taunton grew up in a musically gifted household; her great-grandfather Kevin Waugh was a well known radio singer, her nan and pop, Julie Ludlow and Anthony Taunton, carried out throughout Australia and her aunt Sian Ludlow owns famend music tuition college Stella Studioz.
“We would come home from school and instead of watching TV we would have to play an instrument,” she says.
“Music’s in our family, when you turn up to birthdays there’s probably a 10-piece harmony going in a happy birthday song.”
But “sitting on the lounge” watching The Voice as a bit of lady, Taunton by no means would have imagined she’d have a shot at acting on the massive stage.
Feeling nervous forward of her blind audition, she’s additionally excited to come back face-to-face with Australian music royalty.
“I’m very excited to meet Jessica Mauboy and Guy Sebastian,” she says.
“Being Australian artists, I’ve looked up to them for a very long time … it’s a privilege to perform in front of them.”
And the gifted singer is hoping to observe within the footsteps of her well-known uncle, comic and The Project panellist Sam Taunton.
“He’s been very supportive throughout this whole journey,” she says.
“He’s someone I definitely look up to, and hopefully my career can become as good as his one day.”
And Taunton has huge plans within the pipeline.
Hoping to marry her fiance within the subsequent few years, the pair are additionally trying to purchase their first dwelling.
But it’s heads down for now, as they concentrate on their careers.
“I’d love to get more known through social media and do more gigs,” she says, aspiring to file singles and ultimately albums as a rustic pop artist.
And it appears home-grown hero Jessica Mauboy is high of the record in relation to inspiration.
“She started from basically nothing and is such a power woman… she’s so inspiring,” Taunton says.
