Sir Michael Caine has celebrated his milestone ninetieth birthday surrounded by his well-known associates – together with Tom Cruise.
While the Oscars-shy motion star ditched final week’s Academy Awards, preferring to sleep in an igloo within the Arctic Circle whereas filming the most recent Mission: Impossible instalment, he clearly wasn’t about to say no to Sir Michael.
The beloved British actor rang in his special occasion at prime London eatery The River Cafe, surrounded by his celeb associates, together with Cruise, Little Britain star David Walliams and Loose Women speak present host Denise Welch.
“Happy 90th birthday to the legendary Sir Michael Caine,” Walliams captioned a carousel of pictures of the star-studded occasion, which he shared on Instagram.
It was a uncommon outing for Caine, who isn’t typically seen out and about today. Although the star has not formally retired from performing – he nonetheless has two tasks within the pipeline – he leads a quiet life in London together with his spouse of fifty years, former actress and mannequin Shakira, 76.
However, there was nothing quiet abut the birthday bash on Tuesday night, with Caine, Shakira and their well-known associates showing in good spirits in an Instagram video shared by Welch.
“Such an honour to be asked by Shakira to say a few words at Sir Michael Caine’s 90th birthday,” the speak present host wrote within the caption. “He loves a dirty joke and so does @tomcruise it appears! Great night and amazing company.”
The video then confirmed a part of her speech, with Cruise seen wiping away tears of laughter.
Meanwhile, followers couldn’t get sufficient of the Cruise-Caine outing, with many voicing their delight on social media.
“No way is that Tom Cruise and Michael Caine … just fainted, I can’t imagine being at the same table as Hollywood royalty,” one fan tweeted, whereas one other wrote: “Totally bizarrely hilarious.”
While Caine and Cruise have recognized one another for many years, the Alfie star solely met Welch in 2016 after her artist husband, Lincoln Townley, launched them when he painted a portrait of the Hollywood legend.
“Michael is a complete legend,” she advised Daily Mail final yr. “I was very nervous of him when I first met him. He’s a huge fan of my husband’s work.
“I became very good friends with Shakira, his wife. We see them as regularly as possible and I adore him,” she added. “We don’t seem to make movie stars like that anymore. He’s just a legendary actor and he’s just wonderful.”
