After a Sydney season of 301 performances and 301 standing ovations, the massive wheel of Tina — The Tina Turner Musical retains on turning because the Australian manufacturing opens at Crown Theatre Perth.

Ruva Ngwenya takes centre stage within the jukebox musical’s titular function following Turner’s journey of hardship and home violence to superstardom, produced in affiliation with the queen of rock ‘n’ roll herself earlier than her demise in May 2023.

Over the moon whereas concurrently being humbled and intimidated by the duty when first forged, the 31-year-old Melbourne musical theatre performer — who made her skilled debut in 2013 as hyena Shenzi in The Lion King — mentioned the function by no means stopped difficult her, each bodily and mentally.

“It’s not necessarily a role that gets easier, it’s more that you just figure out ways to manage it and you also get stronger,” Ngwenya, who’s staying in Scarborough through the Perth season, mentioned.

“It’s also quite mentally challenging and draining so you really have to be on top of your mental health and make sure you’re looking after yourself, finding ways to switch off from the themes in the show.

“But with all that being said, it’s still just as fun as the first time I got up there. Particularly towards the end of the show, because we end on a high end. It’s impossible to sing Proud Mary without a smile and a sweaty back… the music is so damn good.”
