The actor who performed Australian music legend Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum in a TV sequence has slammed the 79-year-old in a no-holds-barred interview.
Samuel Johnson, who received a Gold Logie for his portrayal of Meldrum within the Channel Seven restricted sequence, has unleashed throughout a stay interview on The Morning Show.
It comes after Meldrum apologised for ‘mooning’ followers at Elton John’s Melbourne live performance on Monday, claiming his belt was in charge for his pants falling down.
However, Johnson isn’t shopping for it.
“I don’t believe it was a wardrobe malfunction,” he stated.
“Who are his minders? Is he okay? Who are his minders? He shouldn’t be allowed out in the pm, he’s sozzled by that time. He has two shots of vodka in his coffee in the morning. If I want to make any sense out of him I have to see him by midday.
“Stop Molly, stop,” Johnson passionately pleaded as he slammed the desk.
Earlier within the interview, the previous The Secret Life of Us actor additionally had a go at Meldrum for ruining his second on the 2016 Logies.
“I was about to have my million-dollar moment and I told him specifically not to come up on stage. He was not nominated, it was my moment. I wanted to make it about cancer and he wanted to make it all about the network. He ended up coming up at the Gold Logies and it was my million-dollar moment gone wrong,” he stated.
“He warbled in a very drunken fashion for eight whole minutes and now I’ve seen him do it again at the Elton John concert. Maybe it’s time to hang up your hat mate.”
The 44-year-old stated he was coming from a spot of affection and never anger and was simply involved for the previous music journalist.
“I want to do him a service, not a disservice. I’m a little bit uneasy talking about this. Firstly, thank you Molly. He has helped me out of a legal pickle. He visited my sister in hospital when she was sick with cancer when she was 11 in the 1980s,” Johnson stated.
“I am really grateful for everything Molly has done in our lives.”
On Monday, Meldrum informed the Herald Sun nobody knew he would be part of John on stage.
“I shouldn’t have ventured on stage, but I just wanted to tell Elton that I loved him… Some people thought it was part of the show. It wasn’t. Elton had no idea I was going to jump on stage,” Meldrum informed the publication.
“I shouldn’t have crashed Elton’s show. As for my performance being more revealing than it should have been … well, at the start of the night, my belt buckle broke and my pants were already falling down. And on stage, one thing led to another.”
The on-stage behaviour triggered nationwide headlines following Friday’s present.
