Speaking in regards to the previous 18 months, Crowe recalled, “I bought that farm in 1996, the first hundred acres, before I made LA Confidential. Turns out I’d been practising social isolation for the previous 26 years, and I’m quite good at it.

“It was a really enjoyable 12 months for me, and I loved it very a lot. But it kind of stuffed up my tanks a bit of, I suppose. It was kind of like, a break that I did not know I used to be going to have, and did not actually perceive how a lot I wanted to have.

“As it turns out my father passed away in early 2021, and the most usual conversation you have with people when you’re sharing that information – if they have had the same experience of one of their parent’s passing – they lament, ‘If only I had one more weekend’, or ‘one more dinner party’.

“In reality, I’d have 12 months of being with my dad. Yes, he had his issues – a bit of little bit of early on-set this, and early on-set that and the whole lot.

“But to share little adventures… sticking him in a Polaris buggy and scooting through the back roads of the farm while it’s pissing down with rain is not something you’re supposed to do with an 85-year-old, but he absolutely loved it.”

With a smile, he added, “He actually said to me after we did that, ‘All these people will tell you that was a bad thing to do. But I bloody loved it.'”

“It was an absolutely crazy decision to have made, but now that it’s over and it’s done… am I satisfied with where I got to? Yes. I’m totally happy with it.

“I like cinema as an artwork type, I like the medium and the fluidity. It was a loopy factor to do, however I’m very glad I did it.”

Poker Face was shot in New South Wales and marks Crowe’s second directorial outing following 2014’s AACTA Award-winning The Water Diviner.

The movie also stars Liam Hemsworth, RZA, Elsa Pataky, Aden Young, Steve Bastoni, Daniel MacPherson, Brooke Satchwell, Molly Grace, Paul Tasson and Jack Thompson.
