Rock out to AD/DC at Fremantle’s High Voltage festival

It’s the occasion that’s tipped to herald 1000’s of tourists to Fremantle and companies are able to get into the spirit of all issues AC/DC.

High Voltage will see the streets of Fremantle closed off on Sunday, May 7, and three mini competition places arrange throughout the port metropolis, with a convoy of stay bands on the again of vehicles doing a 5km circuit lap to pay tribute to the legendary Bon Scott.

Perth Festival particular tasks inventive producer Kate Ben-Tovim informed PerthNow that many companies had jumped on the bandwagon to participate within the rock ’n’ roll occasion.

“The cappuccino strip will be closed for the whole afternoon and into the evening, and a number of businesses like Benny’s and Metros are doing their own programming, so they’ll be spilling out into the streets in the way that they often do,” Ms Ben-Tovim mentioned.

She mentioned many bars and eating places have been internet hosting their very own automobile park events, together with Running With Thieves, the Old Synagogue and Little Creatures.

“I met somebody who works at Varsity and they said all the staff will be dressed up and I think they have themed food, so we’re anticipating lots of businesses are getting into the spirit of the event.”

Fremantle Chamber of Commerce CEO Chrissie Maus mentioned she was “incredibly proud” to have High Voltage be part of their main occasions calendar.

“Our port city has always been proudly different and this event is the perfect fit for our diverse community,” Ms Maus mentioned.

“All businesses will gain additional exposure from Sunday. With that amount of people coming into Freo, many traders are planning on taking advantage of what could be new audiences.

“The positive effects from events such as High Voltage again demonstrate that supporting local has been critical to our businesses surviving the pandemic and it’s pleasing to see we’ve retained the Soul of Fremantle and what makes us such a unique and desired destination for West Australians.”

Rather than replicating the Canning Highway route taken in 2020, this 12 months’s free occasion will likely be held as a Fremantle-only carnival with three separate stay websites and road circuit performances taking centre stage.

The 5km convoy route with WA famous person Diesel on the forefront will start at Esplanade Reserve close to the Bon Scott statue outdoors Cicerello’s, head alongside Marine Parade after which traverse the South Terrace strip previous bars, cafes and eating places to Fremantle Oval.

Three stay websites may also be arrange at Fremantle Oval, Esplanade Park and Wilson Park at South Beach.

Ms Ben-Tovim mentioned all music tastes could be catered for at one of many “mini-festival” places each earlier than and after the truck performances.

“Fremantle Oval we are saying is a place for music fans, so there’ll be Southern River Band before and Dan Sultan and Katy Steele afterwards … really fantastic music acts,” she mentioned.

“Wilson Park is a bit more of an indie zone with a bit of a 70s era feel and there are two bands playing before DICE and Datura4 and then afterwards we’ve got a sunset set by Ningaloo Records, which is a really fantastic local South Freo DJ.

“Then Esplanade Reserve is what we’re saying is our family zone. There was such a huge enthusiasm from families last time for this event and whilst the whole event is really family-friendly, we’re really focusing on Esplanade Reserve as a place where it is really family-focused on its programming.

“Before the trucks come through, there will be a number of music acts that families will love, including Perth Saxophone Rockers, the School of Rock and other well-known artists like Carla Geneve and Delilah Rose doing nursery rhymes and rock classics for kids.”

DICE lead singer Tom King mentioned the band was thrilled to be part of the day and pay homage to Bon Scott.

“We’re all very big fans of Aussie rock, especially Reagan our bassist, he’s a massive AC/DC fan,” King mentioned.

“We will be playing a bunch of our old songs and plus we have an EP coming out on the Friday before, so we will be playing some of those new songs.

“That will be the first time that people get to see those songs live before we go on tour which is super exciting. It’s a bit of a little exclusive teaser.”

High Voltage will run from 1pm to 6pm.
