Nirvana phenomenon still inspires WA musician

Anyone who noticed Justin Burford’s theatrical manufacturing Come As You Are debut at Astor Theatre in September 2022 is aware of the immense impression Kurt Cobain had on the WA musician as a teen rising up within the Nineties.

The End of Fashion frontman has introduced a brand new follow-up present, companion piece Justin Burford Sings Nirvana Unplugged, that includes an intimate efficiency of Nirvana’s legendary MTV Unplugged in New York album.

“While Come As You Are is the full-blown, detailed theatrical recreation of Nirvana’s iconic MTV Unplugged show, this is me using that performance almost as a launching pad to detail my personal relationship with the phenomenon of Nirvana and my relationship with Kurt Cobain,” 42-year-old Burford says.

“It’s a close and personal look at what that relationship is and how it’s changed over the years.”

This newest providing can have Burford largely performing solo with the occasional visitor musician.

“Before it’s been me trying to personify Kurt, whereas this time I’m up the front,” he says.

“I’m the forefront and Kurt kind of becomes the backdrop.”

Justin Burford Sings Nirvana Unplugged is at Lyric’s Underground, Maylands on April 29 earlier than touring to Margaret River, Busselton, Guildford and Fremantle. Tickets at oztix.com.au.
