Lady Gaga refuses to pay a $500,000 reward for the return of her French bulldogs, insisting the girl was conscious of them being stolen.
The Bad Romance singer was sued in February by Jennifer McBride — who handed over the pop star’s canine in February 2021, two days after they had been taken from her canine walker — after she refused at hand over the “no questions” sum in change for the secure return of her pooches and the 37-year-old star has now filed a movement to dismiss the lawsuit, insisting the girl was a part of a conspiracy to steal the animals.
Documents obtained by CBS News said: “Plaintiff Jennifer McBride seeks to profit from her participation in a crime.
“The law does not allow a person to commit a crime and then profit from it.”
Attorneys for Gaga mentioned McBride claimed to have been a great Samaritan who discovered the canine on the road by probability and had “no idea” they belonged to the Star is Born actress. However, they argued she was, the truth is, a “direct and knowing participant in the criminal enterprise”.
In December, McBride was sentenced to 2 years probation after pleading no contest to knowingly receiving stolen property.
She has maintained she carried out her obligation beneath the phrases of the reward contract. Still, Gaga had no intention of paying it, so she is suing for breach of contract, fraud by false promise and fraud by misrepresentation.
She can also be searching for authorized charges and compensation for monetary damages, ache and struggling, psychological anguish and lack of enjoyment of life; nonetheless, Gaga’s staff argued she had not suffered any damages in returning the canine.
A listening to on the movement to dismiss has been scheduled for 10 July.
