Karl Stefanovic wasn’t fairly anticipating such a clumsy response to revealing his Easter plans on-air this morning.
The Today co-host was interviewing Tourism & Transport CEO Margy Osmond on Thursday’s Nine program, when Osmond requested what he was doing for the lengthy weekend.
“Going to Noosa,” Stefanovic stated.
The remark prompted a coy smile from Osmond, who cheekily requested, “What could go wrong?” – in apparent reference to Stefanovic’s notorious Noosa park brawl with former Test cricket captain Michael Clarke in January.
Stefanovic, 48, was initially left speechless as Osmond broke into giggles, merely responding, “Fair point”.
Meanwhile, the digital camera flashed to co-host Sarah Abo who was concealing her personal chuckles with paperwork.
“Oh, yes. What could go wrong, Karl?” Abo stated.
In a news story that may go down in Australian tabloid folklore, cell phone video captured Clarke, 42, arguing together with his then-girlfriend Jade Yarbrough in a park in Noosa over the Christmas holidays, as she accused him of dishonest on her together with his ex-partner, activewear mogul Pip Edwards.
Stefanovic, who’s married to Yarbrough’s sister Jasmine, was additionally within the park, with Clarke captured on the video yelling at “Karlos”, calling him a “c**t”.
“Karlos, I can tell you now c**t, don’t you f***ing look away. She can, she can punch me, but you, you c**t …” Clarke was heard saying to the TV character.
In the footage, which emerged mid-January, Clarke is also seen limping after he injured his hamstring within the scuffle.
Stefanovic, who had been buddies with Clarke for years and was reported to have launched him to Yarbrough final 12 months, nonetheless hasn’t commented on the incident publicly.
Clarke instructed The Daily Telegraph on the time that he was disenchanted by his behaviour.
“I accept full responsibility for this altercation and am shattered by my actions,” he stated. “I’m absolutely gutted I’ve put people I hold in the highest regard in this position. My actions in the lead-up to this altercation were nothing short of shameful and regrettable. I am shattered that because of my actions I’ve drawn women of class and integrity, and my mates, into this situation.”
Clarke and Yarbrough have been fined for public nuisance by Queensland Police after officers investigated the footage.
