Jackman musical coming to Perth cinemas

Big news has arrived for musical theatre followers who nonetheless lament having missed seeing an up-and-coming WA Academy of Performing Arts-trained Hugh Jackman star as Curly in National Theatre’s acclaimed manufacturing of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!

Directed by the legendary Trevor Nunn, the 1998 London stage revival transferred to the West End in 1999 and received 4 Olivier Awards, together with Outstanding Musical Production.

Thankfully, Jackman’s breakout musical function, which was described by Variety on the time because it being “hard to imagine a more immediately charming Curly than Jackman”, was captured on movie and will likely be screened to greater than 800 cinemas across the globe, together with Perth, on July 16, 19, 23 and 26.

The screenings of the 25-year-old London manufacturing — by Trafalgar Releasing, in partnership with Concord Originals and The Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization — coincide with the eightieth anniversary of the musical’s 1943 premier on Broadway.

“The 80th anniversary of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! allows us to share this quintessential slice of Americana with global fans,” Kymberli Frueh from Trafalgar Releasing says.

“This particular production is acknowledged as one of the best through the eight decades of performances in theatres around the world. All the talent in this classic version of Oklahoma! hit their mark brilliantly and musical theatre fans can experience for themselves why it is credited with launching Hugh Jackman’s stage career.”
