The determination to take her songs out of the privateness of her bed room and into the general public sphere was a frightening prospect for the FIFO emergency nurse, however she was decided to beat her concern.

“When I got signed to a label, I was petrified of performing live,” Stow says.

“I went to a hypnotist for a couple of months and she helped me get the nerves out of the way. Now I am really excited for this tour; I feel like I am very much myself on stage.”

“Before I would go in the ring, if I felt scared I would ask my coach what to do,” she says.

“He would say to me ‘You need to learn how to do the hard stuff. When you get into a relationship, you don’t know if you’ll get your heart broken, but you do it anyway’. That really stuck with me.”

Stow’s energetic persona could stand in stark distinction to her early-career nerves – she lately opened for Rapper 360 to her greatest viewers but.

However, there was a time she felt self-conscious about not with the ability to masks her Australian accent when singing.

In addition to getting airplay on Triple J, TikTok has been instrumental in boosting Stow’s profile and she or he believes social media is essential for rising artists to construct a following.

“This is still very new to me and I am humbled by it,” Stow says.

“I try to reply to every comment and I message people back. The negative comments do come as well — I think people think that the more followers you get, the less you can see. But I don’t miss anything.”

She provides with amusing: “Someone commented on one of my TikTok videos saying ‘You sound like my dead dog’. I replied saying ‘Bro, I don’t know what that means but I hope you are OK’.”

While Stow continues to be sporting her scrubs on a mining website, she is eager to see what follows after her upcoming tour.

“It’s expensive to make music. My last song Safety Net cost me US$4000 to make,” she says.

“The return on it doesn’t cover what you spend, but it’s worth it. I am going to keep nursing for now and I know if I believe in myself, something will come from this.”

Hannah Stow will play on the Rosemount Hotel on August 10 as a part of her Do People Even Like This Stuff Australian tour. Tickets are through Oztix.
