Waste staff are refusing to gather a minimum of 35,000 waste bins within the City of Sydney council space on Tuesday.

“They will remain on the streets for quite some days to come,” Mr Olsen mentioned.

The union is claiming that Cleanaway refused to partake in negotiation till they have been taken to court docket.

He mentioned staff employed within the City of Sydney council space are a minimum of $4/ hour behind most different Cleanaway waste staff in NSW.

“We are the lowest paid in Cleanaway that we are aware of,” he mentioned.

“The City of Sydney council upon their deafness stand condemned for not getting involved, for not encouraging their contractor to sit with the union and find a compromised deal that will get everyone back to work,” Mr Olsen mentioned.

He mentioned the union is worried for the wholesome and security of metropolis residents if the bins stay uncollected for the remainder of the week.

The union is looking on the council to intervene as it’s chargeable for the contract with Cleanaway.

A Cleanaway spokesperson mentioned a consultant met with the TWU on Monday afternoon and supplied an improved pay improve of as much as 5 per cent each year again dated to July 1, 2022.

“We are currently communicating the offer with our employees and hope for a speedy resolution,” the spokesperson mentioned.

“Any impacted residents are encouraged to leave their bins out, and if they are not collected we will pick them up in the following days.”
