‘Serious’ mid-air drama forces McGowan’s plane back to Perth

A flight carrying Western Australia’s Premier has needed to flip again to Perth Airport after a mid-air medical emergency.

In the early hours of Monday morning, Mark McGowan was Singapore-bound for a connecting flight to Beijing to kick off the primary of a five-day commerce mission however he ended up again in Perth when, after about an hour into the flight, a passenger on board the Singapore Airlines flight suffered a stroke.

Fortunately for the passenger, it’s understood a physician was on board to help.

“My thoughts are with the man and his family,” mentioned Mr McGowan.

“From where we were it looked very serious, but the staff on board were fantastic, as were the passengers who did their best to help in what was clearly a very serious situation.

It’s understood Mr McGowan and his group will fly out of Singapore Monday night, heading for the Chinese capital.

A key a part of the journey was going to be a gathering with China Southern Airlines to renew flights between Perth and the most important Chinese commerce hub of Guangzhou, which had been halted because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

But Mr McGowan on Sunday confirmed that journey to Guangzhou been cancelled because of scheduling conflicts with the pinnacle of China Southern.

He will, nonetheless, be assembly with different airways in Beijing.
