Chris Minns has backed NSW’s shopper watchdog to look into Metricon after a spate of complaints towards one among Australia’s largest residential builders.
Metricon has had no less than 60 complaints lodged towards it with NSW Fair Trading since March, in response to the company’s on-line complaints register.
Some complaints had been confirmed by the company.
“I’m concerned about it,” the NSW premier informed reporters on Friday.
“They’ve been the subject of six complaints … that have been upheld by Fair Trading since 2019,” Mr Minns mentioned.
“If action is to be taken by Fair Trading, that’s exactly what will happen to protect consumers and those that purchase property in NSW.”
Some complaints towards the builder relate to service high quality, work and contracts, the ABC reported.
But a Metricon spokesperson informed AAP it had not been contacted by NSW Fair Trading relating to any inquiries.
“We are open to any discussions that can lead to resolving any concerns,” the spokesperson mentioned.
“We have always been committed to providing assistance whenever needed and are ready to help.”
The firm mentioned it had accomplished 2144 properties in NSW previously 4 years and “remained steadfast in our commitment to delivering excellence in every home we build”.
Starting about 6000 residence builds a 12 months throughout Victoria, Queensland, NSW and South Australia, Metricon has ranked first amongst all residential builders for the previous seven monetary years.
NSW Fair Trading was not instantly out there to verify if a probe was underway.
The claims towards Metricon come amid troubles within the sector together with the high-profile collapse of builder Porter Davis, which fell over in March carrying about $147 million debt.
