Indigenous communities are being urged to get their share of $75 million to develop “microgrids” to assist finish Australia’s dependence on expensive diesel in distant and regional areas.
Microgrids are standalone power methods, usually comprising photo voltaic panels and batteries, that may function in areas removed from the so-called nationwide electrical energy grid.
Applications will open on Friday, with the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) program set to run till December 2025 or till the funds are allotted.
CEO Darren Miller stated this system would assist Indigenous communities entry renewable power and construct on ARENA’s work in microgrids.
“It’s vital we make sure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in remote communities are able to participate in the electricity transition and share in the benefits,” he stated.
