International airline goes under, Aussie flights cancelled

Air Vanuatu has reportedly gone into administration, leaving the vacation plans of Australian travellers underneath a cloud.

The Vanuatu Daily Post stories the airline’s board had been dissolved after directors have been appointed.

It is known Ernst and Young have been appointed directors.

The Vanuatu-based airline flies between Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia and a spread of Pacific Island areas.

On Thursday, the airline both cancelled or rescheduled as many as 20 flights throughout the Pacific.

Air Vanuatu companions with each Qantas and Jetstar to supply flights to the Pacific, in addition to Fiji Airways, Air Calin, Air Nuigini and Solomon Airlines.

The airline hit the news in September 2023 when lots of of Aussies have been left stranded after a string of cancelled flights.

At least 26 flights have been grounded with passengers reportedly given little or no details about the sudden cancellations.

Flights from Port Vila, Vanutatu’s capital, to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Auckland have been impacted.

The airline later mentioned the cancellations happened as a result of engineers have been ready on a component for the Boeing 737 that serviced the route.

In a press release to News Corp, the airline’s airport companies supervisor Jody Southern apologised for the “unforeseen” disruptions.

The airline has been contacted for remark.
