Five-hundred passengers at Hobart Airport needed to be evacuated and re-screened by means of safety due to two false fireplace alarms.

The first was triggered about 1.40pm on Friday, resulting in the evacuation of the departures corridor.

It was deemed to be a false alarm however a second one was triggered straight after.

Passengers needed to be re-screened by means of safety earlier than they may return to the departures corridor and board their airplane.

The airport’s chief working officer mentioned there will likely be an investigation into the incident.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience caused this afternoon,” Matt Cocker mentioned in an announcement on Friday.

“The safety of the travelling public is our number one priority and as such, we needed to take these matters seriously and work through the required protocols.”
