“But what we do know about Beaconsfield is there’s this point that’s been made that there is no heart.
“The proposed redevelopment of the TAFE site gives this kind of opportunity around heart and I’m quite interested in how we might partner with the State Government to say well here’s an existing, thriving, beating heart that might fit quite well in a planned way in the development.”
Ms Wheatley stated after taking a look at a number of websites throughout the broader Fremantle space, she believed preserving the markets in Beaconsfield made “the most sense”.
“The old TAFE site carpark is central and the area benefits from our activation,” she stated. “We popped up in the carpark over COVID lockdowns and it worked really well.”
The market will take up a part of the previous TAFE’s outdated carpark and proceed on to the oval to accommodate all stallholders and probably extra sooner or later.
“At the moment we have a great mix, and I like to make sure the stallholders attending have a good day and are happy to wake up at 4am the following Sunday and do it all again,” she stated.
“I am always looking for more local fruit and veg produce stalls, we are a farmers market and the demand for local food, without the nasties is always growing.”
