Andrew and Nicola Forrest will donate 220 million shares of their listed mining firm Fortescue Metals Group to their philanthropic basis Minderoo.
The couple established the Minderoo basis in 2001 and it receives funding by way of dividends from Fortescue, the corporate Dr Forrest based in 2003.
The donated shares, value about $4.9 billion, make up one fifth of the couple’s shareholding.
