Fast Ed to spill seafood secrets at this year’s Crab Fest

TV chef Ed Halmagyi has praised WA’s “world-class” crabs forward of this weekend’s Channel 7 Mandurah Crab Fest the place he can be instructing folks his favorite seafood secrets and techniques.

After a three-year absence the two-day occasion will burst again on to the scene higher than ever with household enjoyable, leisure and meals experiences alongside the town’s foreshore.

Crab Fest is Mandurah’s most important annual occasion which attracts guests from throughout the State, all eager to get a style of the crustacean character of the Peel area.

Fast Ed, most recognized for his function on Better Homes and Gardens, is especially excited to showcase his crab culinary expertise by cooking demonstrations.

“A lot of people will go buy a cold, cooked crab from one of the many retailers here but I hope to get people to understand beyond that you can give yourself the opportunity to try something incredible if you’re prepared to do one or two more steps,” he stated.

“I’m going to teach people how to cook themselves, how to crack it, how to ensure flavour gets into the crab rather than around it.”

Halmagyi stated the pageant was “really well-geared, well-designed and well-delivered” and as for WA crabs — they’re “completely world-class”.

“The waters here by any reasonable international comparison are untouched, you’ve got crabs with incredibly clean water, they have access to enormous amounts of food so they are well-fed, well-looked after crabs that are not overfished,” he stated.

“The WA Government does very good job of maintaining those quotas, it’s a very well managed fishery in a pristine part of the world.”

The movie star chef stated it was the quantity of candy meat that made a WA crab “absolutely superb”. “If you are a crab aficionado and you put a WA blue crab up against one from SA, it’s a no brainer,” he stated.
