Erin’s gut-wrenching day in Parliament

Erin Molan has watched on because the parliament delivered a shifting memorial to her father Jim, who died final month after a battle with most cancers.

On Monday, colleagues of the late Liberal senator and former Army main basic gathered to pay tribute to the person they remembered as a “true patriot”.

His household, together with Erin, have been within the Senate’s public gallery because the speeches have been made.

“He was clear that we should welcome China though, from a position of strength and needed to increase our self reliance.

“For Jim, it was a simple case of showing leadership in the face of a saying that he often repeated, be ready and be strong, because the world is a nasty and brutal place.”

Prior to getting into politics, the Senator‘s army profession spanned 40 years and has been credited as one of many architects of Operation Sovereign Borders – a tough line military-led coverage to discourage asylum seekers arriving by boat.

He entered parliament in 2017 after Fiona Nash was disqualified over her twin citizenship.

In 2019, he was relegated to the unwinnable fourth place on the Liberal Senate ticket however was later appointed to the informal emptiness attributable to the departure of Arthur Sinodinos. He was re-elected to the Senate on the 2022 federal election.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong stated Senator Molan left a legacy of professionalism, dedication and repair.

Senator Molan identified with prostate most cancers in early 2021. He died peacefully along with his household by his aspect on January 16 on the age of 72.

Senator Molan is survived by his spouse Anne, 4 kids and 5 grandchildren.
