Crown boss wants workers back in office

The head of Australia’s largest on line casino group says CBDs are going through a disaster, as he known as for staff to return to the workplace.

Ahead of an Economic Outlook discussion board to be hosted by Sky News and the The Australian at Sydney’s Crown on Friday, Crown Resorts chief government Ciarán Carruthers mentioned he needs staff out of their houses to spice up shopper and business confidence and revitalise CBDs.

His plea got here as new ABS figures this week reveal Australia’s economic system slowed to only 0.2 per cent within the March quarter, coinciding with the RBA’s resolution to hike charges to its highest determine in many years.

Crown is likely one of the nation’s largest employers, and the largest single web site employer in Victoria. With its $2.2 billion VIP on line casino and resort in freshly developed Barangaroo in Sydney, and its operations in Perth, the corporate employs greater than 23,000 workers.

“We are still behind where we were pre-pandemic and part of that is the CBD hasn’t returned to full vibrancy as yet. Work from home has certainly given us a challenge,” Mr Carruthers advised The Australian.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will ship a keynote handle at Friday’s Economic Outlook discussion board, earlier than partaking in a dialogue on “the most topical issues facing business and the economy”.

President and chief working officer of Blackstone – the corporate which purchased Crown Resorts final 12 months – may even focus on the “global forces investor can’t ignore”.
