Stonehenge tunnel plan gets go-ahead from Government

Plans to assemble a highway tunnel close to Stonehenge have been authorized, the Department for Transport (DfT) mentioned. Transport Secretary Mark Harper has granted a Development Consent Order (DCO) for the undertaking on the A303 in Wiltshire. A DCO beforehand issued for the £1.7 billion National Highways scheme was quashed by the High Court in July 2021 amid concern concerning the environmental impression on the Unesco World Heritage Site. The plans contain overhauling eight miles of the A303, together with digging a two-mile tunnel. The A303 is a congestion hotspot, with drivers heading to and from the South West throughout peak vacation intervals usually caught in lengthy queues.
